Into The Valley

One of two species of large (45mm) damselfly in Britain to have obviously coloured wings. Preferring sandy bottomed streams and rivers.

Males establish territories which they defend from a bank-side perch.

Females choose the male with the best site for ovipositing.

Can be found far from water in sunny wooded glades and meadows, occasionally sharing the same habitat as the Banded Demoisellle.
